Abelardo Martinez is a graphic designer in New York City. He has been an activist in the labor movement for almost a decade working for GNY LECET, where he held the position of New Media Coordinator to some of New York City's largest unions, utilizing his skills in traditional and new media to design content for a wide range of marketing formats, including promotional materials, newsletters, magazines, banners, t-shirts, hats, flyers, websites and the ongoing advertising campaigns in both industry and general media outlets. He also worked with Simon & Schuster as a Senior Designer for Atheneum and McElderry Books where he focused primarily on making children's picturebooks that stand out on the shelf. Successfully managedover 15 titles per season, adhering to a fast paced, deadline-oriented production schedule and meticulously layed out cover and interior mechanicals for all illustrated picture books and non-fiction picture books. Titles include Beautiful Blackbird, the 2004 Coretta Scott King Award winner for best illustrated book.

Abelardo holds a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from Altos de Chavón the School of Design, in the Dominican Republic, and also holds a bachelor's degree in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City.
